Thesis:
In a politically toxic time, Allan H. Spear demonstrated both leadership and political courage for being the first male state legislature to come out as gay. Through this revelation, Spear went on to make enormous contributions to LGBT rights movement as president of the Minnesota Senate. His contribution to the movement lives on through the many members of the Minnesota LGBT community. that lead lives with less discrimination.
